A type of linear actuator where a threaded rod is rotated to move a nut along the rod. It is an accurate method of linear actuation that can also move considerable loads.
Also referred to as a lead screw.
The nut may be threaded or may contain ball bearings that ride in the rod threads, reducing friction.
In additive manufacturing, a screw drive is used to linearly move components in the additive machine with precision. A screw drive is more accurate and durable than a belt drive.
