A form of directed energy deposition for metal additive manufacturing where metal powder is injected into a stream of high-velocity gas and sprayed by a nozzle onto the current build surface. The build surface can be curved. These particles impact the surface with enough energy to plastically deform and heat the binding surface, creating a solid bond. The process also includes a milling tool to shape the resulting surface or remove material that can be filled in with a different material. Materials can be changed from layer to layer, and a soluble support material can also be deposited. The technology is offered by HERMLE.

Abbreviated as MPA.
